We will establish an environment that makes it Feasible to Assess Safety and Test Efficacy/Effectiveness Rapidly (FASTER) of COVID-19 vaccines.
The FASTER project fosters a competitive research environment to enable rapid and reliable clinical and immunological research on new vaccines as well as enable an optimally reliable and efficient epidemiological evaluation of COVID-19 vaccines on a national scale.
FASTER has 3 work streams: 1) prepare a national network of clinical trial sites that will be effective, robust and flexible to investigate immune responses, safety, and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in different populations as well as efficacy for SARS-CoV-2 variants.
FASTER ensures that Sweden becomes a major participant in the international vaccine clinical trial scene by being a prominent partner in the EU COVID-19 vaccine project VACCELERATE, 2) provide early estimates of effects and immunogenicity of COVID-19 vaccines in a well characterized sentinel cohort of prioritized vaccine recipients (healthcare workers) and 3) establish a National Quality Registry for infection of SARS-CoV-2 that will serve as a nucleus for comprehensive population-based evaluations of the uptake, effectiveness and safety of COVID-19 vaccines. The FASTER project has assembled a competitive and multidisciplinary collaboration across five Swedish regions.
FASTER aims to become a world-class research environment to generate evidence for short- and long-term follow-up of COVID-19 vaccines.
