During the period 2018-2021, the innovation Stadsträd.se was developed by Calluna AB and Geografiska informationsbyrån AB, and was partly financed through support from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and Formas. At present, the Stadsträd.se web application has approximately 500 users.
So far, 18 municipalities have chosen to map urban trees and publish these in Stadsträd.seIn urban development, working with the city´s green structures and concepts such as nature-based solutions, ecosystem services and green infrastructure is a priority in Sweden and within the EU. Research and new methods are constantly evolving, and it is a challenge to reach out with this.
Knowledge and understanding need to be shared by many different actors such as; developers of housing, urban planners, architects and construction companies.
Stadsträd.se is the link between these actors and constitutes a common knowledge base that is constantly updated and growing about the trees´ values and functions.
Tree values are often not given enough attention in the urban planning processes and these issues often come in too late in the planning process.
Many trees are lost in new exploitation areas, without the values of the trees being assessed. The goal of this project is to further develop the innovation Stadsträd.se together with our users.
We do this through the dissemination of knowledge and the development of functionality that adds more benefits for all users of the platform.
In four work packages that we have identified as the most important development areas, we want to work with: calculations of ecosystem services, system integration and communication. We assess that the project contributes to the overall impact target of 40 percent reduced environmental impact in a life cycle perspective for new construction and renovation of buildings and infrastructure by developing a tool to achieve the milestone strategy for living cities, 2018.
