The goal is to develop a prototype for a new aquatic landscape typology in Stockholm that restores and initiates ecological functions and habitats that have been lost due to centuries of physical impact.
The design will be based on ecological, social, and economic challenges allowing for a multifunctional living environment that contributes to increased biodiversity and resilience against effects of climate change. One main purpose is to bring people and the environment together.
Stone masses are investigated as a possible building material, thus constituting a resource, and contributing to local recycling of stone, environmental benefits, and lower costs. In Stockholm municipality, almost half of the shoreline is constructed.
In the Stockholm archipelago, more than 40 percent of the fish´s spawning and rearing areas are strongly affected by exploitation. If the development continues at the same pace, there will be no reproduction areas left in 50-years. There are also major challenges in the lack of communication and coordination regarding water issues.
It places demands on more cross-sectoral working methods that support a system understanding. Through the project, co-creation methods are initiated and developed together with stakeholders. Experts formulates design criteria that will affect the design of the prototype. They can also be used as a toolbox for future projects.
The pilot will thus be a prototype both in terms of method development and innovative design.
