Purpose and goal:
Starting with the recent development of new experimental techniques to characterize the size distribution of fibrillar components in dispersions, it is possible to develop an industrially useful methodology for understanding how these components affect the process efficiency and properties of the end products. Based on this hypothesis, the project has been designed with the goals:
- To characterize micro and nanoscale components for online use with high repeatability in an industrial environment. - To use this knowledge to optimize process efficiency and material properties. Expected results and effects:
Successful results will be of industrial benefit, partly to characterize material composition in the paper machine, especially materials that are not "seen" today and which form a significant part of the active surface, and partly as new knowledge for optimizing the wet end of the paper machine. The project contributes to the industry´s innovative capacity by educating people to implement process-oriented research from an industrial transformation perspective and to apply the latest basic research results on a large industrial scale.
Approach and implementation:
To achieve the technical goals, the project plan has been designed around three work packages. The progress of the plan will be continuously evaluated against the industrial companies´ research and development needs and implementation conditions: 1. Method development. 2. Application of the method in the industrial environment.
3. Online industrial application of the method.
