Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of our project was to create an integrated analysis that shows how valuable bioresources are best used in our economy until 2050. This has been fulfilled as planned. Concretely, we have had three objectives: 1. Create an updated analysis of the supply and demand of biomass for both energy and materials applications to 2050.

2. Develop a framework to prioritize where biomass is most useful in the economy and quantify what it might look like to 2050, 3. Analyze the value at stake and what needs to be done by decision makers to enable a stronger European bioeconomy. Expected results and effects: We expected to contribute with the following things, which have been fulfilled and published in our new report:

* An updated perspective on the use of biomass that includes both materials and energy.

* An updated technology perspective. As alternative technologies develop very quickly, the future role of biomass looks very different than just a few years ago.

* A clear picture of what measures decision-makers in policy and businesses must take to enable a richer bioeconomy and quantify how much is at stake (in money, land use, emissions, and biodiversity) Approach and implementation:

We have carried out the project with a full-time team that has focused on developing analyzes and writing a report. We have also had analytical and some financial support from Systemiq, who has deep experience in creating scenarios for a sustainable transition. * Development of analytical data lasted until June and built on and developed the analyzes we previously described.

* We have also finished our report, which was published in July. Since then, we have been spreading the report and messages.
