Purpose and goal:
The goal of STAAR is to combine technology with rehabilitation measures that are based on evidence to create a comprehensive digital solution. STAAR will support healthcare providers with demand-driven medical technology in cost-effectively scaling up and maintaining digital secondary prevention for stroke and TIA remotely, and to support patients´ maintenance of lifestyle changes through mobile-based digital self-care and self-monitoring.
Expected results and effects:
STAAR has been piloted on 120 patients and has made great advances in offering patients with stroke/TIA across Sweden digital access to supervised training sessions, self-care programs, information and contact and support from a physiotherapist. 78% of the participants have been over 65-years of age, which corresponds well with the intervention´s target group and positive trends are seen in relevant health outcomes. The digital treatment with STAAR has been safe, appreciated and demonstrated great value for the individual.
Approach and implementation:
STAAR has been evaluated for feasibility as well as a process evaluation regarding the use of STAAR in clinical practice, which has led to a number of areas for improvement. Preliminary treatment effects have included measurements of blood pressure and physical activity, and patient self-reported walking ability, fatigue, depressive symptoms and quality of life before and after the rehabilitation period. The end-user experience of STAAR has been investigated via in-depth interviews.
