Sustainable food consumption without having to choose, a platform that makes the choices for you.

Purpose and goal:

Today´s consumers want to shop more sustainably but find it hard to know what the best choices are. With food, it´s even more difficult. In addition to a desire for food to be climatically, environmentally, socially and economically sustainable, it must also be healthy.

The project aims to expand the existing service with the nutrition indicator that, alone or in combination with other indicators, gives the consumer the best guidance towards a healthier and climate-friendly diet, and thus be able to offer consumers the whole that is lacking in the market today. Expected results and effects:

By integrating research and data and automating the decision process, we eliminate the knowledge barriers that prevent food consumers from a more conscious consumption. By making it easy to buy the right food, we help our users to make the change required of us all to achieve the goals in Agenda 2030, and we create a basis for improved public health. We call it Sustainability by Default.

Approach and implementation:

Together with our research partner, RISE Agrifood & Bioscience, we developed a prototype that visualizes the user´s food consumption from a climate perspective in step 1. In step 2, IBM is added to the team. The project will develop indices and calculation models for nutrition, evaluate consumers´ acceptance of and understanding of various indicators, as well as how individuals act on the information contextually.

The full-scale operating solution will be validated, conditions for patents examined, and a user interface that guides towards sustainable food choices will be designed.
