Renewable cellulose-based nonwovens as superabsorbents for the hygiene and healthcare sector

Purpose and goal:

The project achieved the goals as planned: TRL of production was increased: 1) optimized the absorption properties in relation to the end user´s specifications. 2) produced prototype materials in the material manufacturer´s pilot test line. The project MRL moved from 1 to 2: reached out to more links in the value chain for more potential product using in the consortium and formulated a commercialization plan with extra parts within the value chain.

SRL raised from 1 to 2: facilitated the adaptation of a more environmentally friendly nonwoven production technology (UN SDG 9.4). Expected results and effects: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **

The project resulted in three material formulations for the commercial production line for the hygiene and wound care sectors: (1) Optimized nonwoven to maximize the desired properties as superabsorbent material and to replace fossil-based nonwoven. (2) a commercialization plan to produce nonwoven in pilot production line.

The project collaboration was good and the test plan was well organized and well implemented. The results were satisfied with product and nonwoven manufacturers. A more comprehensive commercial production plan has been discussed. The consortium will continue to invest in the project even if the stage 1 project is completed. We aim to create a more realistic and feasible step-2 plan for application opportunities after the summer of 2022.
