Purpose and goal:
APNOEAWAY will deliver Somnar, a contactless device for diagnosing sleep apnea, a disorder that causes breathing pauses during sleep. The device is placed on the bedside table and will use a unique radar sensor to monitor respiratory parameters while patients sleep in their own bed. An algorithm analyzes sleep data and detects sleep apnea.
Diagnosis today requires a costly solution where patients sleep in a sleep laboratory with a large number of sensors applied to the body. The goal of the project is that many more people will have an opportunity to have their sleep problem examined. Expected results and effects:
At the end of the project, Sleepiz´s product Somnar, which will include a first version of Acconeer´s new A2 radar sensor, will have been validated in a feasibility study by Göteborgs Universitet and will be ready for a crucial test required to meet all medical diagnostic quality requirements. This evaluation is a basic prerequisite for entering the market.
Approach and implementation:
In this project, Göteborgs Universitet together with Sleepiz will evaluate a first Somnar prototype with Acconeer´s current A1 sensor and provide input to Acconeer to develop a first version of a new generation of its A2 radar sensor. At the end of the project, the product Somnar, which then includes a first version of A2, will have been validated in a feasibility study by Göteborgs Universitet. This study provides guidance for a final validation study required to enter the market.
