The CuEEd-LL doctoral school—a collaboration between Jönköping University (JU), Gothenburg University (GU), Malmö University (MU), and Stockholm University (SU)—aims to build research-based capacity among teacher educators to prepare the next generation of teachers for contemporary Swedish schools.
CuEEd-LL follows an international tradition that views Language and Literature (LL) as integrated in culturally situated meaning-making, whether through literary works, performing arts, media texts, digital modalities or face-to-face social interaction.
Building on such a multidisciplinary perspective on LL together with the principles of culturally empowering education, CuEEd-LL responds to an acute need for research-based knowledge that prepares teacher educators to engage with LL in culturally sensitive and empowering ways.
Led by JU in collaboration with a Steering Committee with two representatives from GU, MU and SU, one each from the LL fields, and two PhD student representatives, CuEEd-LL will admit nine PhD candidates from across Sweden.
Together, they will advance research-based foundations for teacher education, making issues of hegemony and culturally mediated worldviews explicit for both teacher trainers and teacher students.
Enhanced awareness of linguistic and literary decolonizing methods, and of normative cultural frames, will enable teacher education to move beyond monolingual and monocultural norms, thus strengthening equity and quality education for all.
