RelMaS2 addresses the challenges of educating younger generations for navigating and transforming a complex world, where mathematical and scientific knowledge intertwine in dealing with wicked problems.
This involves negotiating views of the content, pedagogies and research foundations of school mathematics and science, to make them significant for active citizenship and to provide equitable access to diverse student population.
The purpose of the graduate school RelMaS2 is to continue to strengthen research in mathematics and science education by extending the VR funded graduate school RelMaS, thereby consolidating the initiated research and collaborations, and to advance on relevancing the scientific and mathematical contents in the context of a post-pandemic education.
RelMaS2 will engage 9 teacher educators in practice-oriented research aiming to analyze and develop didactic models for relevancing mathematics and science education. RelMaS builds on established collaboration between the universities of Malmö, Stockholm and Uppsala.
It will be managed by Stockholm with an inter-institutional board, a scientific committee and an international advisory board.
It will offer 6 core courses in topics such as the role of mathematics and science in relation to wicked problems, in/exclusion in mathematics and science education, and critical participatory methodologies in didactics. It will use the current national and international collaboration network of the three universities.
