The Department of Government at Uppsala University nominates Mona Lena Krook, Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Women and Politics Ph.D. Program at Rutgers University, for a Kerstin Hesselgren Visiting Professorship.
Professor Krook is one of the most widely-cited gender and politics scholars globally, reflecting her path-breaking contributions on topics like gender quotas, feminist institutionalism, and violence against women in politics. If selected, Professor Krook would spend twelve months in Uppsala from January to December 2023.
She seeks to spend time in Sweden researching and writing a book comparing paths to women’s increased political representation across the Nordic countries.
In Uppsala, she would join the Uppsala Gender and Politics research group (@uppgap), a collection of professors and graduate students in the Department whose interests intersect in numerous ways with her past, current, and emerging work.
Her stay would also provide an opportunity to deepen links between the Uppsala research group and the Rutgers Women and Politics Ph.D. program, via online programming and – should a separate international collaboration funding application to Rutgers University be successful – an in-person event.
Additionally, over the course of the year, Krook would visit universities across Sweden and the broader Nordic region, collecting data, giving talks, and exploring collaborations to draw on and inform debates in Swedish and Nordic political science.
