Data Templates – Proof of Concept

Actors in the public construction sector have a great need for access to digital product and environmental data and that these are available throughout the building´s life cycle - from design, production and maintainance and finally reuse or demolition and recycling.

Access to such data is, for example, a needed for conducting life cycle analyzes in order to reduce the environmental impact of buildings or to create traceability of embedded products and their properties and content.

The strategic project Roadmap for digital supply chains (which is now completed) aims to produce a common and anchored goal picture for the construction sector for ownership and management of standardized construction product data (properties for construction products) and an action plan for implementation.

This proposed project is in line with this action plan.

The purpose of the project is to show how data templates can be used to make standardized product information available in a digital value chain, from manufacturer to digital product model. The information can be used in environmental calculations, among other things.

Proof of concept is made through two case studies (wood and concrete products) that set up and test a digital information flow.

The case studies use a product-wide data template for environmental properties (according to EN 15804) and information from product-specific data templates.

The project will, in dialogue with other initiatives and stakeholders, identify what already works today, and then identify remaining shortcomings that are prioritized for the market to develop and agree on in order for the information flow to work.
