The project aims to map current status and facilitate digitalisation of waste management, for which, different units of the municipality are responsible. The project will investigate challenges and possibilities to create on-line municipal waste facilities in rural areas within the archipelago and on land.
Data from the waste facilities will be collected in real time and shared in a common interface.
The data is used by waste entrepreneurs, the municipal units in charge of management, those responsible for investments and those responsible for planning and ensuring a good environment for both inhabitants and visitors. The study focus will be waste containers and pump-out stations for toilet waste in the archipelago of Haninge municipality, as well as waste containers in facilities owned by Norrtälje municipality.
A number of these facilities will be selected for a pilot test.
Equipped with real-time information collected over time, collection and management will be optimised, and there is great potential for improved planning and investment in new facilities.
Future development of the project is to combine the data collected with other types of information, e.g. amounts of visitors to the archipelago and environmental status of water.
This would enable actors to adapt their activities and develop methods ensuring better service to both inhabitants and visitors, taking local environment into account, i.e. enable institutional learning.Project partners are Haninge and Norrtälje municipality, technology developers Bintel, waste collectors Svensk tanktransport and consultants Ecoloop AB.
The project consists of six work packages which, in short, will map the current situation, outline prerequisites for implementation and suggest a way forward. The project will lead to more effective waste management, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and costs, while retaining service levels.
