Grant Description

Professor Martin John Shepperd, PhD,  Dept. of Computer Science, Brunel University London, UKJan-Dec 2022 (12 months on 0.75 FTE)The purpose of this visit is fourfold.

One, contribute to the development and maturation of Swedish software engineering research, in particular at GU/Chalmers. Two, to undertake specific collaborative research projects. Three, to mentor a junior researcher.

Four, build the foundations for an ongoing, broader network of Swedish/UK software engineering researchers. The planned programme falls in the fields of computer science, and data science and statistics. Specifically, we wish to work in machine learning and data analytics in the domain of software engineering.

The programme is based on three focused projects: a large-scale analysis using Volvo data; improving the rigour of published software engineering experiments; and convening a workshop to improve the practice of software data analytics by revisiting the key paper on this topic from Menzies and Shepperd.

Additionally, Shepperd will contribute to the research infrastructure via writing surgeries, seminars, and a summer school.

As well as working with the Software Engineering division at GU/Chalmers, five other Swedish universities have indicated their strong support (Blekinge, KTH, Linköping, Lund, and Mälardalen).
