ARTEMI is a distributed infrastructure in Transmission Electron Microscopy, with six Swedish partner universities for synergy and advanced instrumentation.
Catering to physical sciences and cross-over disciplines in life- and medical sciences, it constitute a critical complement to the ESS and MAXIV large-scale research infrastructures.Compared to relevant infrastructures in the same domain such as for neutrons and photons, electron microscopes can identify and quantify the coordination, element and chemistry of single atoms, interstitials and vacancies, an aptitude that rapidly gains momentum as research challenges progress to the nano- and sub-nanoscale domain. This proposal outlines an effort to promote Sweden’s leading position in advanced microscopy.
ARTEMI will develop research methods beyond state of the art and offer access to instruments and experts to academia and industry in Sweden and nurture international collaboration.
In addition, ARTEMI pledges to operate the infrastructure, develop long-term strategies for an available, sustainable, world-leading and cost-efficient research infrastructure in electron microscopy, with a centrally coordinated investment program for new instruments, in liaison with HEIs and funding agencies.
