Purpose and goal:
We have used an existing new Swedish invention in radar technology to solve the problems with fall accidents in the elderlycare. A completely new application of radar that greatly improves quality in welfare technology in elderly care. Sensors with radar with interpretation by Artificiell Intelligens can warn that an accident is about to happen before it occurs.
The service leads to fewer bone fractures and a better working environment. When the resident gets out of bed in the middle of the night to try to get to the toilet, for example, the staff is warned and can help before the fall. Expected results and effects:
We have proven that radar is an aid in preventing fall accidents. We expect that the use of advanced technology can change the tasks in elderly care from emergency and problem management to prevention and support. Many people see technology as cumbersome, but technology in the service of man can be relieving and not yet a task. Radar technology species in the background and do not need to be maintained. It provides valuable information that facilitates the care of people not appliances.
Approach and implementation:
We have followed the plan. A lot of time has been spent on anchoring and information to all participating parties. Start-up meeting with staff, Information material for relatives and information for visitors has created understanding and de-dramatized a test of new "invisible" technology.
Care activities are legal and process-driven and it has therefore been important to explain what technology should do and how we measure. A radar is not visible, not heard and not felt. A layman can therefore not easily understand what he is accomplishing. Hence the anchoring work
