Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The aim of this pre-study was to present a decarbonisation plan, ie a plan for how an industry can adjust and reduce its climate impact, for a large paint shop in the automotive industry. This decarbonisation plan is based on the Science-Based-Targets (SBT) initiative and focus on net-zero emissions. In addition to this, the aim was to develop a strategy on how to model this type of complex type of industry. The aim was also to identify key actors to analyze how to implement suggested measures.

Expected results and effects:

Expected results from this pre-study is that it has led to an increased focus on the processes that are central to the transition, such as the use of LPG in ovens and the pre-treatment in the paint shop. In addition to this, the result of the project is a possible inspiration for a choice of path, between conversion, electrification, and local production.

In all paths process innovation, in the form of a comprehensive change of the pre-treatment, and continued energy efficiency, is included. Further implementation of measures studied in the pre-study is also included in expected effects. Approach and implementation:

The pre-study structure is based on a combination of an international literature study, detailed process mapping, a compilation of possible paths, measures and an allocation of climate effects at process level. Allocating climate emissions at the process level is an important part of prioritizing the measures that have great climate impact. This work was then compiled into a decarbonisation plan based on a choice between three paths, conversion, electrification or local production.
