Purpose and goal:
The purpose of this feasibility study has been to increase AstaZero´s knowledge and competence in ADAS/AD testing by exploring testing at different levels of "in-the-loop" methods (MIL/SIL/HIL/VIL). The goal of the project was to create an approach for cross-platform hybrid testing and its integration when mixing real-world and virtual testing. These objectives have been met by exploring options for radar sensor testing in "in-the-loop" environments, implementing open interfaces, and identifying and analyzing KPIs for comparing different test platforms.
Expected results and effects:
During the project, AstaZero´s knowledge and ability for hybrid testing at different levels (MIL/SIL/HIL/VIL) has been increased and formed an idea of how its results could be compared with corresponding tests on the test track. The results achieved are increased knowledge of limitations with radar stimulation, implementation of radar sensor model, Proof-of-concept for use of open interfaces in "in-the-loop" environments, analysis of KPIs through access of data from a parallel project that performed AEB test in a VIL environment and compared to traditional testing on a test track.
Approach and implementation:
he project has been carried out in three work packages based on the questions raised in the beginning of the project. WP1 Methods for verification of radar targets in HIL/VIL environments, WP2 Open interface for integration of testbeds and test platforms, WP3 KPIs and methodologies for correlation of simulation and real-world testing. All WP began with a brief analysis of different approaches that were appropriate to explore in practice.
These were evaluated through implementations and PoC. All WP successfully resulted in tools and methods for continued research and development.
