Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The focus of the project is to develop quantitative methods for safety and reliability analysis. The goal is to enable the inclusion of safety as part of concept design and dimensioning of the architecture in E / E systems for heavy vehicles. For this purpose, the project will develop methods and tools for stochastic modeling that also use input from field data.

The project aims to develop methods that are suitable for analyzing the safety of new technologies, including autonomous driving and connected vehicles. Expected results and effects:

By using the methods and tools developed in the project, engineers will be able to design complex systems, such as heavy trucks and autonomous transport systems, that are sufficiently safe and cost optimized. This in turn enables staying competitive in the market. Approach and implementation:

The project is led by Scania, where research engineers in the project will work closely with product development teams, who are the intended users of the final results of the project. KTH will contribute with a doctoral position. RISE will have a minor role in the project to examine the methods developed by the project in relation to the standards ISO 26262, IEC 61508 and ISO 21448, and in particular to examine how the developed methods and tools can be qualified for certification against these standards.
