SongWriter

Purpose and goal:

The goal was to develop an application for automatic notation of singing with accompaniment in the form of a so-called lead sheet, with melody, lyrics, and chords, with the aim to support the creative process for e.g. singer/songwriters, ScoreCloud Songwriter. For this, cutting-edge technology for source separation, lyric recognition, pitch, and music analysis would be developed and integrated into a cost-effective consumer product.

These goals have been met in the project. Indeed, ScoreCloud Songwriter is the only product of its kind on the market in the world today. Expected results and effects:

The project has resulted in the following being developed according to specification and objectives, ScoreCloud Songwriter for Desktop, Mac, and Windows respectively, and ScoreCloud Songwriter for tablet. Songwriter for Mac has been launched in September 2022 and in January 2023 also Songwriter for Windows. The product has been launched mainly through social media advertising and in communication with existing ScoreCloud customers, with good reception. We see a 15% monthly growth in users and revenue.

Approach and implementation:

The project has been laid out in four work packages, Development of basic technology from research to industrial application, Development of basic product concept and desktop application, development of a mobile application, and marketing and sales concept. The work process has been designed so that all these work packages have been addressed in parallel, in order to be able, for example, to start from customer needs in product design and technology development.

It has been a successful model, which has, however, been hampered somewhat by a lack of resources and personnel.
