Purpose and goal:
The aim was to develop a demonstrator of a composite material aircraft engine part with integrated multi-functionality for de-icing and lightning strike mitigation functionality with minimal weight gain. The project re-focused on integrating the de-icing function which was successfully implemented and tested on a full-scale demonstrator for aero-engine part.
Expected results and effects:
Ice build-up was de-iced by inducing current into a graphene coated layer which was implemented into the demonstrator. The test was performed at freezing conditions to prove potential performance in some flight conditions. Approach and implementation:
The innovative material was implemented into the standard manufacturing process for the selected aero-engine part and further analysis and development is needed. However the implementation was not requiring significant deviation from the standard process.
