Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The aim was to further develop a cheap scalable and wet chemical method to create stable films of reduced graphene oxide on different substrates so that the films have lower resistance than with the current method. The goal has been to use the method to create rGO coated particles as conductive fillers in adhesives for mounting components on aluminum substrates. The purpose has been achieved and a clear improvement in management ability was observed.

Expected results and effects:

The main result is an improved method for creating conducting coatings of rGO. In addition to the intended application, the developed method can provide new inexpensive transparent electrodes for optoelectronics. Furthermore, a method has been discovered for simple and cheap fabrication of thick coatings of GO and rGO on surfaces, something which is normally difficult to achieve due to the typically low concentration of dispersions of GO, rGO and graphene.

Approach and implementation:

The initial plan was to develop wet chemical and scalable coating methods on flat model surfaces before the work on the coating work began. This proved to be a good way to develop the method, and led to unplanned results such as transparent conductive coatings, which may be more important than the initially intended goal. Experiments showed that assembly of components with rGO-coated particles worked. More time should be spent on the development of fast-curing adhesives.
