Continuous fibre control

Purpose and goal:

The project aim was to develop a prototype system to measure and control the properties of the pulp during dispersion in order to achieve an improved and stronger value chain. In short, the prototype system has been iteratively verified with return pulp at Cellwood´s pilot plant in Nässjö on repeated occasions with subsequent signal analysis. In the long run, a correct operating setting enables more correct fiber properties which affects the quality of the end product.

Furthermore, Pulp-Eyes´s online measurement methods for the properties of recycled paper have been mapped. Expected results and effects:

Based on measured sensor data and subsequent analyzes, we have developed a method to be able to automatically control the dispersion process and suggestions on how the regulation can be performed based on operating conditions. Together with the integration of PulpEye´s online methods for the recovered pulp, it will mean a more accurate and well-defined control of the dispersion process.

This provides better control of the pulp properties without an unnecessary increase in energy use during longer operation to achieve more stable quality of the final product. Approach and implementation:

The project has delivered a verified prototype sensor system for the dispersion system. Measurements were performed at Cellwood´s pilot Krima system plant on three occasions for different operation conditions. The planning of the measurements with the optimal number of combinations in the system and signal analyzes as well as associated methods were presented and discussed continuously at virtual project meetings every two weeks.

In addition, a workshop on manual and online measurement methods for recycled pulp was carried out and a status film was shown at the PiiA summit.
