Demand-driven and people-centered IoT for a better quality of life

Purpose and goal:

The aim project was for the administrations to gain a common understanding of the needs of the inhabitants and how the IoT could meet these needs and how the inhabitants stand to share data from their everyday lives with the municipality to enable this type of service. The in-depth interviews with residents have shown a willingness to share their data from everyday life with the municipality if you get a service that is helpful.

Both residents and staff have contributed ideas on how IoT technology could solve challenges in the everyday lives of residents. Expected results and effects:

In order for the resident to feel safe using IoT in their everyday life, certain basic conditions must be met: to understand what they agree to, that data is handled securely, access to technical support and that the service is offered free of charge or at a low cost. The needs can be summarized in certain themes: to remind or control oneself, to be able to signal the need for help that is needs-driven instead of schedule-driven, positioning service to know where a relative / transport company car is and to get help navigating welfare and coordinating contacts.

Approach and implementation:

Information and a film about the project were distributed to staff in the administrations as well as to voluntary and interest organizations. In-depth interviews with 16 people aged 17-84-years were conducted, 7 women and 9 men. Talks have also been held with 22 employees. Based on the material, we have identified a number of needs.

A workshop was held with staff who meet residents with different challenges. Knowledge of IoT and how it can be used was provided and the needs were presented. Ideas for solutions that can meet the needs were developed jointly.
