Purpose and goal:
During this project we have developed simplified methods for the diagnosis of infections in immunocompromised patients. We have leveraged the use of single molecule Molecular Inversion Probes (smMIPs) to deliver results under 4h. We envision that the developed approach will speed up the detection of fungal infections in AML patients and improve their quality of life.
Expected results and effects:
We expect that our work will simplify the detection of microbes in multiple settings. Even if here we focused on AML patients, the developed technology is widely applicable, from farming to the identification of waterborne pathogens. Approach and implementation:
The project was carried out as a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet (KI), the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) and a hospital in Delhi (AIIMS).
We developed new technologies in colaboration between KI and IIT. We recived critial clinical feedback from our collegues in AIIMS.
Due to the fast developement of Nanopore technologies we had to adap our research project and integrate those new capabilities into our proposed approach.
