Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The AI-NET-PROTECT project aims to deliver automated, resilient, and secure networks using trusted equipment for critical infrastructures. The Swedish consortium developed AI/ML-enhanced technologies to manage complex, customized network slices, optimize performance, detect anomalies, and enhance security. The project advanced optical network automation and cybersecurity through proof-of-concept demonstrations and research and contributed to education and new product development.

Expected results and effects:

The AI-NET-PROTECT project advanced optical network security and automation using AI/ML for anomaly detection, network automation, and secure learning platforms. It enhanced network security against threats, developed real-time telemetry solutions, and improved network management through automation. New/improved products, e.g., Waystream´s Netconf and Savantic´s cybersecurity tools, were developed.

The project also promoted diversity through workshops and mentoring. For its achievements, the project earned an excellent final score and the CELTIC Innovation Award. Approach and implementation:

The project implemented advanced technologies across the network´s edge, metro, and core, using AI/ML for predictive management and security, marking significant advancements (see KPI file). Despite the pandemic, all milestones were met, proving the project´s effectiveness. Focusing on proof-of-concept demonstrations ensured future-proofing and global impact.

Collaboration with international partners and contributions to industry and academia promise long-term effects on network automation and security.
