Education for the new normal: ´Bildung´ in the Anthropocene

The ecological footprint of humanity is a threat to the global environment.

Conceptualizing these changes in terms of the Anthropocene is a way to frame the effects that humans have had on the Earth´s geology and ecosystems and how we will have to form our lives under new and unprecedented conditions. However, this ‘new normality´ has not yet been internalized as an historical and spatial self-understanding.

This also applies to the structure of the general educational curriculum.

We will address the challenges put to the educational system and school subjects by inviting leading researchers within humanities and social science, educationalists and researchers of subject-specific education to participate in a series of workshops.

The aim is to lay the foundations for an educational platform for curriculum development in relation to the question of the Anthropocene. We further believe that such a platform needs to bridge the gap between disciplinary specialists and educationalists.

Two webinars and two workshops will be held providing the basis for developing a position paper, an application (vetenskapsrådet) and a framework for further applications.

A network will be initiated, connecting experts in the field of Anthropocene to educationalists and researchers of subject-specific education.

Outcomes will be;A strengthened international research network A scientific article to launche a resarch program.Research applications.
