NUTRiGREEN is a €0.8 million three-year project, aiming to contribute to sustainable development by enriching diets with traditional plants to improve the health, nutrition and income of the local populations.
This goal is accomplished by strengthening agroecological farming production methods for the cultivation of traditional plants, which will generate income, reduce food insecurity and improve biodiversity; this will be achieved by upgrading and organising resilient value chains, which are efficient and generate income for farmers and stakeholders.
In the process, NUTRiGREEN will train young entrepreneurs to develop business models, as well as heavily engage and foster young academics - 25 Masters and two PhD students.
Results will be disseminated via links to national and regional initiatives, government bodies and our extensive partner network as well as: the local popular media; scientific journals; conferences; a three-day NUTRiGREEN conference and exhibition; the dedicated NUTRiGREEN website and; other relevant internet-based fora. The NUTRiGREEN project will focus on activities in two regions in West Africa: Gaoua in Burkina Faso and Thies in Senegal.
This is a collaboration between African and European institutions, (Cheikh Anta Diop University UCAD, Senegal; and National Center for Scientific and Technological Research (CNRST), in Burkina Faso; The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Sweden; and Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany.
