This project explores how artistic perspectives and values can affect the dealings and management of the millions of tonnes of rubble that is being excavated from the extension of the subway.
The project also explores what role public art can have in shaping the living environment that emerges in connection to this large scale landscape transformation.
Furthermore, cross-sectorial workflows and new methods that includes artistic perspectives and values for designing sustainable living environments will be developed and tested.
The methods will draw from two theoretical and methodological trajectories that are of particular relevance for the study 1) transdisciplinary approaches and Mode 2 knowledge production with particular focus on public art and complex systems thinking and 2) resilience theory which has come to be used as a broad policy tool in understanding complex systems and challenging linear thinking.
The municipality, Stockholm stad, would directly be able to benefit from the research and ideas created along the process with an ongoing possibility to integrate produced knowledge and ideas regarding how the excavated masses could become a key for new living environments.
A main result of the study is the production of a scientific article and a strategic report with the purpose to be a tool for future processes in regards of public spaces relating to water.
