Grant Description

The Project is aimed at the development of new effective approaches for synthesis of new functional advanced materials based on the lignin and biochar.

The object of the Project has been chosen due to the fact that properties of rigid matrices could be upgraded by valuable characteristics of polyphenolic macromolecules. Lignin is the second most abundant biopolymer after cellulose on Earth and the main source of aromatic compounds.

The production of aforementioned polymer from agricultural wastes causes the economical attraction and broad availability of such material.

Lignin have been proved to be important source for using because of those highly functional character due to rich in phenolic and aliphatic hydroxyl groups.

Biochar is well known carrier with strong structure, and characterized by advanced surface stability in the broad pH media, fast adsorption kinetics, thermal stability, high specific surface area and resistance to microbial attack.

During realization of the Project it is proposed to develop an approach of preparation of novel class of green functional hybrid materials based on biochar and lignin.
