The purpose of this research project is to develop new mathematical models and decision support tools to aid in the design and operational control of sustainable multi-stage inventory and freight distribution systems.
The goal is to help companies and supply chains to cost efficiently reduce carbon emissions from freight transportation and inventories and thereby contribute to the global goals of Responsible Consumption and Production and Climate Action.
The project is motivated by recent OECD projections of drastic increases in carbon emissions from global freight over the coming decades, and generally large opportunities to increase load factors of transport vehicles.
