Current production and consumption systems are dominated by linear resource flows.
A transformation to a circular economy which is restorative and regenerative by design will depend on the strategic actions of policymakers and businesses. One approach for businesses to engage with circular economy is by developing circular business models.
In circular business models’ value is created, delivered and captured by slowing, closing, and narrowing resource loops. Start-ups are essential for developing circular business models due to their agility.
However, developing circular business models is challenging because of the need for several domains of knowledge, cooperation with different stakeholders, and collaboration across different sectors. Thus, start-ups often need external support to access knowledge, funding, and networks.
However, recent research indicates that support actors such as incubators, business development organizations, funders, do not have extensive competencies for supporting circular business models.
Thus, the overall aim of this project is to develop scientific knowledge on how to support start-ups developing circular business models.
By analyzing the real needs of start-ups and the existing competencies of support actors using interviews and focus group discussions, the project will contribute to mapping and closing the gap between supply and demand.
