Jack Halberstam (Legal name Judith, legal gender feminine) will inspire and enrich our research environment through a range of activities from workshops to individual tutoring.
We have identified four high-profile intended outcomes:An anthology on the challenges to global LGBTQI and reproductive rights, co-edited by Profs.
Jens Rydström and Jack HalberstamA research program application bridging two scholarly traditions central to the department: postcolonial and queer. (See research description)The submission of at least five articles from the Department’s researchers to high-ranking international journals. The establishment of a stream for Trans studiesboth at the undergraduate and the post-graduate level.
It is an urgent both academic and societal task to provide knowledge on these scholarly topics. The development of a larger research program, Global Renegotiation of Gender Equality, LGBTQI and Reproductive Rights, involves many of the department’s researchers.
Sexual and reproductive rights are a global arena of conflict, aggressively opposed by right-wing extremism and fundamentalism.
Our planned program will provide a sorely needed nuanced analysis of global cultural and political developments in the field.Halberstam will be based at Lund University, participate in seminars, give lectures and take part in the supervision of PhD students. We also plan 2x2 weeks stay at the Centers for Gender Studies at Göteborg and Karlstad Universities.
