Parker is an award-winning hydrogeologist distinguished for her excellence in research on contamination in sedimentary bedrock aquifers and low-permeability hydrogeologic strata. These two environments are the least understood in groundwater contamination science.
Her knowledge and experience will invigorate the Swedish scientific community into additional research and education in an area in large need of knowledge and knowhow to be able to reach the Swedish environmental goals. Planned program:1. Special lectures at collaborating institutions at Lund and Uppsala Universities, Chalmers and DTU Denmark.2.
Graduate course jointly organised with collaborating institutions. “State of the Science - Contaminant site investigation and monitoring”.3. Participation in supervising Graduate Student thesis and examining committees4. Societal involvement with the authorities Swedish Geological Survey and Swedish EPA.
As the science of contaminant behaviour and remediation thereof is dependant on actual field laboratories to understand scale and time, the need for cooperation with stakeholders (SGU and SEPA) is necessary to ensure excellence in this scientific field. 5.
