The Powering Agriculture Initiative introduces an integrated model of hydroponic farming tied with renewable energy generation, demonstrating its applicability in Jordan on a large-scale commercial farm and on small-scale family farms.
It builds local expertise and skills required for its wide-scale adoption, both in Jordan and the broader MENA region, developing profitable and sustainable business models that may be replicated and used to acquire lines of credit.
In 2014, a feasibility study will be conducted to assess the economic feasibility of hydroponics in Jordan and the broader region.
The project also supports commercial and household farmers in the construction and establishment of hydroponic systems, providing technical assistance and support. Educational materials will be shared with regional partners.
These include (a) hydroponic system design; (b) system and management needs; (c) a replicable business model; and (d) analytical results of the performance and economics of hydroponics.
