Grant Description

On January 3, 2008, the Chinese Government agreed to send 5,000 tons of food aid to Zimbabwe to help with a food shortage in the country. A crop assessment after the 2007 harvest indicated that the country had roughly a 1 million ton shortfall. It is unclear whether or not or when the shipment arrived in Zimbabwe.

However, this pledge may have been fulfilled when the Chinese Government provided $5 million to the World Food Program in May 2008 to support its food aid delivery efforts in Zimbabwe (see Record ID#62137).
