Food for the Hungry is implementing a FFP-funded Development Food Aid Program.
The program's primary objective is to reduce food insecurity of vulnerable populations in Katanga and South Kivu Provinces.
This is achieved through Mother Leaders and Care Groups to improve nutrition and Farmer Field and Life Groups to promote improved agriculture.
Major activities include rehabilitation of irrigation canals, distribution of goats/ducks, training on farming and animal husbandry techniques, value chains analysis, dissemination of agricultural marketing messages via billboard, promotion of sound nutrition and hygiene behavior, and improved access to credit.
By 2016, the program will reduce food insecurity among 163,726 people in Katanga and South-Kivu and decrease the percentages of underweight children by 15 percent and stunted children by 10 percent.
