The Transparent Local Governance and Improved Service Delivery (NEXOS) project, will enable residents of targeted municipalities to become active citizens, while at the same time empowering these municipalities to become more responsive to their citizens.
Targeted technical assistance is provided to 43 municipalities, primarily in western Honduras, to improve their capacity to respond to citizen needs. This project also works in the health sector where decentralization reform is already well underway.
Depending upon local needs and capabilities, other sectors, such as education, water and sanitation, road maintenance, crime prevention, and social cohesion are also integrated into decentralization efforts.
Diagnostics to assess the current needs and capabilities of civil society and local government institutions are conducted through participatory mechanisms in each municipality and results from these diagnostics are incorporated into individualized plans for improving service delivery.
Finally, tailored assistance is delivered to help civil society and local governments achieve their self-determined goals for improvement.
