Grant Description

The Protecting Human Rights (PHR) activity will continue its work to reduce domestic violence and child marriage and prevent violence against women including sexual harassment, and other human rights violations.

To achieve these goals, the activity will train more than 8,000 Government of Bangladesh (GOB) officials, police, judges, lawyers, elected local representatives, teachers, and civil society organizations to improve their ability to prevent violence against women and child marriage.

The activity will also organize educational and motivational sessions in 101 schools in USAID-assisted areas and provide 66 legal counselors to increase access to justice for survivors of domestic violence through alternate dispute resolution and formal legal proceedings.

Finally, the PHR activity will support the GOB in adopting and enforcing comprehensive women's rights and domestic violence policies, including an amendment of the 1929 Child Marriage Restraint Act.
