APHIAplus Nairobi/Coast is an integrated bilateral project that covers both Nairobi and Coast Provinces, which host the largest cities in Kenya with unique characteristics and health needs. The project will run from 01/01/2011 to 12/31/2015.
The total project life of funding is $55,000,000 from various sources, mainly PEPFAR, and to a lesser extent Global Health Child Survival account (GHCS).
It supports Government of Kenya (GOK) structures at provincial, district, facility, and community levels in Nairobi and Coast Provinces.
It supports integrated services including HIV, TB, Family Planning and Reproductive Health (FP/RH), Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH), nutrition, water and sanitation interventions - while addressing the social determinants of health.The project addresses two main result areas: 1.
Increased use of quality health services, products and information by: - Increased availability of an integrated package of quality, high-impact interventions at community and health facility levels - Increased demand for an integrated package of quality, high-impact interventions at community and health facility levels - Increased adoption of healthy behaviors - Increase program effectiveness through innovative approaches 2.
Social determinants of health addressed to improve the well-being of targeted communities and populations to ensure - Improved food security and nutrition for marginalized, poor and underserved populations - Increased access to safe water, sanitation and improved hygiene - Expanded social mobilization for health.
