Grant Description

The LIFE Sinai Program was part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Egypt LIFE Program, an assistance mechanism that had three other component projects.

The goal of the Livelihood and Income from the Environment (LIFE) Program, which began in 2004, was to assist economically depressed urban and rural communities to realize more employment, greater economic development, and better living conditions through improved environmental services.

In addition to the three existing LIFE projects, in September 2007, USAID/Egypt and the Government of Egypt (GOE) agreed to add the Sinai project to the LIFE Sustainable Economic Growth component.

LIFE Sinai achieved the goal of improving the livelihood of low-income Egyptians through the promotion of sustainable development and through community development interventions that addressed the basic needs of native inhabitants while preserving their cultural heritage.
