USAID and The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) will provide funding to the Water and Development Alliance (WADA) for pilot programming to reduce non-revenue water (NRW).
USAID will support WADA to work directly with a water utility and coordinate with the holding company to identify key zones for intervention and build upon existing training and technical work.
NRW reduction activities include: measuring water flow, leak detection and repair, installing and fixing meters, reducing illegal connections, and increasing billing and collections.
Public outreach activities will be conducted through TCCC's existing partners and will focus on consumer awareness related to metering, illegal connections, and demand management. Programming will also highlight benefits arising from community participation in water management.
Expected results will be increased customer satisfaction due to improved service delivery, improved understanding of costs associated with water service delivery, and a higher acceptance of metering and a concomitant increase in bills paid.
