This grant partially funds a feasibility study to assess the technical, financial, and economic viability of a wind power plant of 130 megawatts (MW) to be developed in two phases of 65 MW each, along with energy storage of 10-20 MW (20-40 MW hours), as well as associated transmission and interconnection infrastructure in Manhia district in Maputo Province, Mozambique.
The grantee is Globeleq Calanga Wind, SA and the U.S. firm DNV GL Energy USA, Inc. will be undertaking the feasibility study.
This will be among Mozambique's first utility-scale wind power plants, thus helping to demonstrate the cost and performance of wind energy for the country, as well as to improve access to electricity in Mozambique.
