In 2003, the Chinese Government provided a grant worth CFA 3.9 billion to the Government of the Republic of Congo for the Potable Water Supply in Three North Brazzaville Neighborhoods Project.
This project involved the installation of a water supply system — consisting of three water pump stations, a 111 meter borehole, a 103 meter borehole, a 97 meter borehole, and a 53 km water pipeline — in three districts in North Brazzaville: Nkombo, Massengo and Moukondo. The ultimate goal of the project was to increase access to potable drinking water.
Beijing Uni-Construction Company (BUCC) was the contractor responsible for project implementation. Construction started on August 15, 2003, and was completed on August 1, 2005.
The Chinese project name is 布拉柴维尔市北部供水工程. The French project title is l’Alimentation en Eau potable dans trois quartiers du Nord de Brazzaville or Projet d'adduction d'eau dans les quartiers périphériques.
