Project summary The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Health, has established 11 international centers of excellence in malaria research (ICEMR). This administrative supplement seeks funding for the Ethiopian ICEMR center to host the annual workshop for the 11 centers and scientific advisory group (SAG) meeting for
Ethiopia and Uganda ICEMRs in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We will manage the scientific program of the workshop, and facilitate the travel logistics of participants from all 11 ICEMR centers. The 5-day workshop and SAG meeting will include presentations by individual ICEMRs on their scientific progress, information sessions on the ICEMR
program specific requirement, discussion sessions on common issues of interest and break-out sessions on specific important scientific questions in malaria research and control. The workshop will enable participants to share their latest discoveries, expertise, experience, lessons, resources and protocols, and identify areas of inter-center
collaboration The SAG meeting will offer each ICEMR the chance to present their progress to the SAG members, who will, in turn, provide critical feedback and recommendations. Malaria is a very significant public health problem. The workshop contributes to the malaria research and control efforts by facilitating data sharing and
collaboration among malaria researchers from different centers and regions, and subsequently enhancing the development of new malaria diagnosis and control tools and strategies.
