In 2016, the Chinese Government pledged to contribute USD $200 million to the United Nations over a ten year period.
The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) was established to channel these earmarked funds to specific projects in coordination with the UN.
The UNPDF is divided into two sub-funds: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund and The Secretary-General's Peace and Security Sub-Fund.
Approved in 2018 and implemented between December 2018 and June 2021, USD $1,128,229 was allocated from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund to help the governments of Cambodia and Pakistan to formulate, implement, monitor, and evaluate national social security programs.
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and International Labour Organization (ILO) implemented the program, along with the assistance of UN Resident Coordinators of the pilot countries.
Other partners included the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and HRD, Ministry of Planning, Development & Reforms; Poverty Alleviation Division, Provincial Planning & Development and Labour Departments; Employers’ and Workers’Organizations; Academia; and civil society organizations.
