Grant Description

In 2016, the Chinese Government pledged to contribute USD $200 million to the United Nations over a ten year period.

The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) was established to channel these earmarked funds to specific projects in coordination with the UN.

The UNPDF is divided into two sub-funds: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund and The Secretary-General's Peace and Security Sub-Fund.

Approved in 2018 and implemented between November 2018 and October 2022, USD $1,128,229 was allocated from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund to provide the countries of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Nepal, and Timor-Leste with assistance after their graduation from the Belt and Road Initiative.

The project helped the participating countries with post-graduation development planning and mitigating the impacts of having to forfeit existing international support measures (ISMs).

The project was implemented by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), with assistance from UN-OHRLLS and UNCTAD.
