In 2016, the Chinese Government pledged to contribute USD $200 million to the United Nations over a ten year period.
The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) was established to channel these earmarked funds to specific projects in coordination with the UN.
The UNPDF is divided into two sub-funds: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund and The Secretary-General's Peace and Security Sub-Fund.
Approved in 2017 and implemented between June 2018 and December 2021, USD $2,999,545 was allocated from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund to expand the health and social workforce in Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Implemented by the WHO, this project is the application of the "Working for Health Programme" and the five‐year action plan for health employment and inclusive economic growth (2017 – 2021) that the ILO, OECD and WHO developed in consultation with member states. The project provided direct assistance to the governments, social partners, and stakeholders to strengthen institutional capacity and policy dialogue, and to develop, finance, and implement national health workforce strategies.
Working for Health: Health Employment and Inclusive Economic Growth Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
