On April 26, 2023, the Kolokolo Community in South Vella La Vella Constituency officially opened a newly constructed rural health clinic funded through the Solomon Islands Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which receives financial support from the Chinese Government.
The completed facility was handed over in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Chinese Ambassador Li Ming, Western Province Premier Billy Veo, South Vella MP Fredrick Kologeto, and representatives from the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry of Health, and the Western Provincial Government.
The new facility replaces the old Kolokolo Clinic building, originally established in 1963, and features two wards (male and female), four patient beds, a pharmacy, clinical sinks, and lavatories. Construction began in late 2021 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. China is the only donor partner providing CDF support to the Solomon Islands Government since 2019 – 2022.
1. AidData has coded the financing agency as “Unspecified Chinese Government Institution” because official sources identify the Kolokolo Clinic as being financed through the Solomon Islands Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which has received direct financial support from the Chinese Government since 2019.
